Ljubica (Libby) D. Popovic

J.D., MPA

Ljubica (Libby) Popovic, J.D., MPA, earned her juris doctorate from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law, a Masters of Public Administration from the Illinois Institute of Technology – Stuart School of Business and a Bachelors of Arts from Loyola University Chicago.

She began her career as an assistant State’s Attorney prosecuting misdemeanors and arguing criminal appellate cases before the Illinois
Appellate Court and Illinois Supreme Court. She continued her career as Staff Attorney to Justice Margaret O’Mara Frossard, First District Appellate Court assisting in drafting legal opinions on matters pending before the Appellate Court and to Justice Thomas R. Fitzgerald in Illinois Supreme Court where she completed legal research and assisted in authoring opinions in civil and criminal cases.

Ms. Popovic transitioned to the private sector in 2011 where she became a managing partner at Caputo & Popovic PC working on various commercial and complex litigation files. She developed and managed the transactional department, focusing on commercial and residential transactions, business organization and contract disputes.

Ms. Popovic has been a part of the Chicago-Kent College of Law trial advocacy program as an adjunct professor where she taught Trial Advocacy I; II, Intensive Trial Advocacy, tethered Evidence/Trial Advocacy Class, Pre- Trial Litigation Skills and Advanced Appellate Advocacy. Ms. Popovic has also been on staff at Valparaiso University as an adjunct professor for appellate advocacy and has taught courses at the undergraduate level at Purdue University Calumet courses in American Government, Criminal Procedure and Law; Society. She is a certified real estate instructor and has taught continuing education classes to broker-managers and other real estate agents in Illinois.

Since 2019 she has been part of the Chicago-Kent Small and Solo Practice Incubator program as a mentor to new attorneys looking to start their own practices.

Ms. Popovic has argued more than thirty cases as an assistant State’s Attorney before the Illinois Appellate Court and a case before the Illinois Supreme Court. She currently focuses on transactional matters relating to residential and commercial real estate, estate planning, business formation and dissolution as well as contract disputes.

She is an executive member of the Berwyn Development Corp and is a member of the Economic Development Committee.
